About This Project

The RÍO Shopping mall, a few kilometers from Valladolid (Spain), has the most complete offer of commercial services in the region of Castilla y León and has public address, background music and voice alarm systems made by LDA Audio Tech.

The installation, carried out with the integrator Prosegur, has a NEO system with distributed amplification, which means 13 NEO Extension units delocalized in 7 racks (due to the size of the mall), all of them connected by fiber optics.

The public address system is managed by SIME Control for live broadcasts and SIME Calendar to launch automatic messages (daily opening/closing, Christmas messages, etc.).

Regarding the voice alarm functions, the system is managed by:

  • A dedicated software platform, developed by Desico.
  • A pushbutton with different actions (emergency buttons).
  • A voice alarm panel VAP-1.

The Desico software controls both the fire panel and the PA activation. This integration is performed by a closure contacts interface activated by software that allows evacuation through advanced event management on NEO.

This project was very strict about this, given the complexity of evacuation protocols and the associated event management procedures. The LDA systems had to comply with the installation’s internal code, which was achieved thanks to their flexibility in third-party integrations.

The project design also had to include every shop in the mall’s evacuation system, to control each public address system in case of emergency. This point was solved by installing loudspeakers that were dependent on the central system and could turn off the shop PA system remotely so that the mall users’ safety was guaranteed.

LDA has recently performed a complete system audit to diagnose the installation status and upgrade the systems to keep them working properly.

RÍO Shopping has 129 stores, including major brands such as IKEA, Apple, Fnac, Primark and Starbucks, and it offers a new concept of catering through a large space dedicated to gastronomy, the so-called “District of flavor”. There you have traditional cuisine restaurants, fast food and coffee shops gathered around the main plaza designed by the architect García de Vinuesa.

The mall belongs to IKEA Centers and is one of the largest of its kind in Spain, with more than 100,000 square meters.

The great flexibility and scalability of the LDA EN 54 systems, which allow easy integration with pre-existing third-party technologies, are a safe value for any shopping center, where the buyers’ security and a fast controlled evacuation are very important.
