About This Project

The Mondadori bookstore at Piazza Duomo in Milan spans 1,300 square meters and houses a versatile events space. Since opening in March 2023, it has recorded 1.5 million visitor entries annually and become a cultural hub in the city center. The events space hosts presentations, book signings, and cultural activities with a capacity of 140 people.

Project context

The bookstore spans three floors plus an intermediate level (soppalcato) and blends retail with immersive experiences. Its central arena accommodates flexible events under natural light filtering through large skylights. This type of high-traffic commercial installation requires professional audio solutions that manage presentations, background music, and simultaneously guarantee immediate availability of voice evacuation systems certified to EN 54.

Solutions implemented

AVL Technology, supported by our partner Leading Technologies in Italy, installed LDA Audio Tech systems integrated into a single touchscreen control panel. The installation delivers:

• Switching between presentations and background music from a single interface
• Activating EN 54 voice evacuation from the same control point
• Simplified daily operation with no additional staff training required

The system ensures immediate availability for evacuation—critical in spaces with high visitor concentration. The centralized interface reduces failure points and accelerates operational response in any scenario.

Thanks to its EN 54 certification, LDA Audio Tech’s systems help to comply with the current Italian regulations on fire safety and voice evacuation systems in public spaces.
